| My uncle once thought it was cool to have a tabo business in Canada. He thought that those people using toilet paper just wasn't enough.
So he packed lots of tabo and tried to export it there. And the Canadians just didn't get it.
In short, the business venture failed. I think he gave away the hundred of tabos he shipped to all the Pinoys there (who did get it!) |
 | havaianas are the devil. nakita namin sa rockwell yung kanilang make-your-own promo. Sabi ni utol, bili sila ng bili, maiitim naman mga paa! |
 | Okay, i've never owned a pair of Havaianas. Do people buy them cuz they are durable or it's just the brand? I had islanders and they lasted me years! Spartan, has improved from ten years ago, they are stronger too. What do Havaianas have over ismagol or tsinelas? |
 | didipusrex wrote on Apr 19, '06, edited on Apr 19, '06 it's just the brand. and the trend. but people who buy them have to justify their ridiculously expensive purchase by believing they are mahiwaga -- softer on the soles, better to walk on and such. so good luck convincing someone who wears them na tsinelas lang yan.
for the promo, you had to have bought 2000 bucks worth of tsinelas in order to get the chance to pay another 700+ more to make your own custom Havaianas. to me, it's like paying a guy to steal your money. |
 | Ahhhh....so is a softer on the soles...hokay...
"Tsinelas ko galing Brazil, marketing concept by big american firm"
Brand ng tsinelas mo galing Brazil, manufactured in China. Hahaa! Hey, that's not far out. Everything is China made nowadays. |
 | even if they do sell like hotcakes, i don't think the spartan people are worrying. still, ang daming pinoy na nagugutom, marami pa ring fashionista. (sorry, sago) |
 | kagey wrote on Apr 19, '06 I have a couple of Havs ... gifts from people. To be fair, they are quite soft. But I wouldn't shlepp out P800 for a pair of tsinelas unless they were magic.
Meron din akong Havanas at Hawaiianas ... yun P50 lang sa Price Mart so siguro P30 lang sa Divisoria. |
 | i've had el cheapo rubber slippers that are quite soft too. i wonder if there's a softness testing machine (malamang meron) so we could objectively compare the two.
dati tsinelas, sinasnub-snub lang, gamit lang pambahay. ngayong flip-flops na sila, now they're a fashion essential. |
 | meron akong nabili sa sm (sabado mura) palengke namin na havayabas (parang have a bayabas) that looks exactly the same as the havaianas, complete with the flag of brazil, just for 35 bucks a pair!
it's just a matter of marketing, i guess. |
 | WOW! daming replies ah....i only used havaianas as an example of a simple everyday wearable (tsinelas) that shot thru the roof as far as sales is concerned...and as an 'in' thing. was just wondering if we could make the simple tabo into something like this.
but since we're on this havaiana topic, i don't have a pair; but i have nothing against it except it's price. it's like buying a plain white or black shirt at marks n spencer and pay thousands of bucks. like the sando, ooops, sorry, tank top pala...hehehehe. just put the letters MNG (mango brand) at the back, and it can be sold for almost a grand!
anyway, havaianas has the brazilian and phil flag series. i got a pair of 'flip flops' with the jamaican flag on the strap and on the sole. got it in SM supermarket. Php 78.95 |
 | taboianas? may flag din? hehehe.
sorry ha, but i have 5 pairs of havs, 4 of them given to me by various friends. although i like wearing them, and they are a bit softer than the local stuff, they're just like any other tsinelas.
i've seen havanas in the supermarkets, too. pareho din ang design, tapos meron pang mga mas maganda. =) |
 | 'sus...since you're online, san na penguin pics? exhibit tayo dun. subject of course is tabo! installation, photography, film, painting, poetry, movement, etc.

 | didipusrex wrote on Apr 19, '06, edited on Apr 19, '06 mas gusto ko yung Havatampa. Yung lasang tsokoleyt. Pero nag-quit na ako. Daming stale Havatampa dito sa bahay tuloy. |
 | didipusrex wrote on Apr 19, '06, edited on Apr 19, '06 the ones that sell here for around 700 bucks go for 200-250 bucks there oo, balita ko nga nasa 5 USD lang talaga yun. someone's laughing all the way to the bank. or baka gobyerno yun, taxing them to protect the local tsinelas industry. jesus accountant, what you think? |
 | hihirit sana ako tungkol sa hello kitty tabo kaso pg nga pala tayo dito. |
 | ubb622 wrote on Apr 19, '06, edited on Apr 19, '06 oo, balita ko nga nasa 5 USD lang talaga yun. someone's laughing all the way to the bank. or baka gobyerno yun, taxing them to protect the local tsinelas industry. jesus accountant, what you think? Government? Protect our industries? Bwahahaaa! (syet...lumipad yosi ko ah) Not unless someone in government was/is manufacturing/selling tsinelas. From a "legal" trading standpoint and our applicable custom duties, it is not far out that a $5 pair will double in landed price. $10 would roughly be in the P500 bracket. Then a $7 pair will easily hit P700. From my experience shipping, handling and custom duties doubles the price on average. It's not a rule of thumb, as different products have different custom duties. But it safe to say that landed cost usually doubles. |
 | so, how can we make the regular tabo buy-able? |
 | ubb622 wrote on Apr 19, '06, edited on Apr 19, '06 so, how can we make the regular tabo buy-able? It is buyable here. To make it buyable in other countries (Europe and America) we'd have to look at function. Do they need it? If they have good water pressure they really wouldn't need a water dipper. If we disregard function, we'd have to look at it ...maybe as a novelty item. I mean, who needed a Tamagochi! Now, if we want to market in other asian countries that do use the tabo, like India (yes, we've had reports in this group that they do use them in India), or japan, then we'd have to look into their view on the humble tabo and their tabos to find some advantage compared to theirs. I wonder what tabo colors they have in India?
Or! We could start hugging trees to prevent them from becoming toilet paper and spread the Tabolucion. |
 | I have 3 pairs of Havaianas and I paid for them. Screw you all. I. am. a. fashion. slut. But: I wear 'em almost everyday.
I have 2 pairs of tabos and I paid for them, too. And I hardly use them.
So in terms of cost vs usage, they sort of even out.
And to answer the question on how to make tabos sell in foreign markets? Get a foreign-sikat celebrity to use it! Colin Farell can piss in one; Angelina Jolie can cradle her newborn in one; Paris Hilton can use it to carry her pooch; Sharon Stone can use it to wash her uh cooch. Britney can eat her potato chips out of a tabo; Kate Moss can use it to carry her "stash". |
 | hahahaha! tabolusion! tabo revolution!....tabo solution! |
 | "Geeezas Christ! Who uses a water dipper nowadays! Phhhallleze! Get rid of it! It's like you live in the bundoks! This'll look much better as a planter or flower pot."..."Eww, all that lumot."
...uhm...we do live in the bundoks... ...lumot = love... ...why you throwing that away? Where's seƱor evil duck going to bathe?... ...I can't wash my hinny with out it... |
 | i seem to recall that they did a pinoy (not in that sense!) on the show. think he was one of those IT guys who migrated. wasn't really paying attention all that much so i didn't notice if he had a tabo. |
 | I didn't get to see that one...how did the pinoy turn out looking like? Sana hindi Pinoy Elvis. |
 | don't really remember. background noise ko lang kasi yung tv, typically. it's on, but i don't really watch. |

 | Hahaa! Where did you find this? Cool! |
 | OMG. this thread is absolutely brilliant! I've been laughing for the past 10 minutes. You people are the most intelligent conversationalists. Ever. Yes, including Monsterbot who paid for his 3 havs. (aka glorified tsinelas.)
Viva le Tabolutions! |
 | hahaha! it's nice waking up in the morning and read this kind of thread.
yeap, viva le tabulations!=) |
